got a ford transit diesel - it has recently lost a lot of power. Its not blowing excessive smoke or fumes, not loosing any oil or water and its not turbo charged. any diesel gurus out there with a suggestion or two ???

KevinA posts and KevB replies!!! Awesome!!!!

"Hello Kev"

"Hi Kev, nice Transit!"

"Hi Kev, wanna buy it?"

"How much, Kev?"

"It's going for a good price Kev!"

"Can you come down on the price, Kev?"

Ah Kev, wish I could but you now how it is!"

I must ask - is by any chance one of your SWMBO's called Bev???

Dunno much about transit engines but last time I lost power on a diesel it was because one or more injectors had gone "out of spec". Is it injected?

Sorry to disappoint but it's Zoe.

Bloody adverts. I wonder if nameism exists? Actually us Kev's could be in for a substantial out-of-court settlement!!

Does it reach full RPM ? if not pump u/s
If a faulty injector(s) it will run like a 3 legged dog
Usually blocked air filter = more black smoke
Suspect fuel filter or blocked exhaust hose

York or D.I.??
Did this come on suddenly or gradually?? Does it run rough?
Assuming it's a D.I. as Yorks are a bit long in the tooth nowdays.

Sudden loss of power......
1/ Fuel filter clogged
2/ Timing belt jumped a tooth
3/ Injector problem

Gradual .......
in addition to 1+3 above, try
1/ Tappet clearance closed down
2/ Pump out of spec
3/ Head gskt blown between cylinders (compression test it to check)

Let us know what you find.

It's a diesel, what else could it possibly be, other than injected??

If it's not making any different type of exhaust, or taking any different amounts of water and oil, it may well be external.

Barnacles, ropes on prop, crap diesel, boat aground, too many people on board, all of these indicate lack of forward oomph per calorie.

Any of these worth considering before asuming the engine has spat it's internal dummy?
