I posted a thread a few months ago about how I stripped down the 500FG fuel filter on one on my engines because the Racor 500FG appeared to be draining back to the tank when the engine was not used for a few days and also had a slight fuel weep. My tanks are lower than the filter.
As well as a leaky bowl seal, I found that the non-return valve - a floating hollow metal ball which presses against a rubber seal - had been installed upside down. The ball should push against the non-chamfered edge of the rubber seal even though, at first sight, it looks like it should be fitted the other way.
Anyway, yesterday I stripped down the Racor on the second engine just for peace of mind, even though this one did not appear to be draining back.
This one was not weeping but, guess what .... the rubber seal is fitted the wrong way round on this one as well!
It's not a big issue as the fuel pump soon draws back the "missing" fuel when you turn over the engine but I'm a bit of a perfectionist and it irritates me when things are not assembled correctly! :ambivalence:
Just in case this might help someone else.
