I was reading the report on the Aquanaut Global Voyager 1700 and it states the boat does 3 mpg at 8.1 knots. One of the comparison boats is the Privateer Trawler 52 and the report says it uses 1gph at 8 knots (8 mpg ?)

This is a massive difference and I'm wondering if it's true. How could there be so much difference at displacement speed ?

Surely fuel consumption even for a slow boat is very important. Make a massive difference on cost and range.

So why would those Aquanaut people make such an inefficient boat ?

Also like to say that the Privateer 52 looks a really go anywhere boat at a pretty reasonable price ?

I think you should take performance figures published in magazines with a large pinch of salt for several reasons. Firstly, the figures obviously depend on the set up of the boat on the day and the prevailing weather conditions. Secondly, boating mag hacks have been known to forget that there are 2 engines in some boats rather than 1. Thirdly, because of the very low fuel flow at displacement speeds, any errors in the measuring system can be magnified. Logically there shouldn't be much difference between one 52ft steel boat and another at displacement speed, even if the engines are substantially different, because they should require approximately the same amount of power to do it. FWIW, 8 mpg sounds ridiculously high so my guess is that there has been a cock up with the Privateer's figures. Yes, I thought the same, the Privateer looks like good value and the Aquanaut like a hell of a lot of money but IMHO, the finish is probably significantly different. The P52 was at SIBS a couple of years back and I dont know what anyone else thought but I thought the finish was a bit utilitarian

I can do around 10 knots on 20 lh an hour , that is 4.44 G so its .44mpg

Not telling you the boat consumes once you push throtles forward.

I can also do 5lh at 3.5 knots, both engines running..

We went out for a longish trip on one for a trial a couple of years ago. It was brilliant.

My husband would have put his money down on one but I don't need to go slower I need to go faster:eek: :eek:

The owner was going to take her by sea to the Caribbean and live aboard. she seemed to be a real "go anywhere" boat
