We are in Trieste and would quite like to see a bit of Slovenia before going back into Croatia. Piran looks like the place but the pilot says hard to find a space, and there are no contact details given. Also not sure whether it would involve all the bureaucracy ... Worth it for Croatia but Slovenia only has 11 miles of Coast so it would be one stop in Piran, maybe 3 or 4 nights max.
Does anyone know for sure whether UK boats have to do all the port of entry thing, and how much it costs? And whether it's worth trying to get a berth in Piran anyway?
Many thanks.

PS we have come up from Ancona via the Venice lagoon and lots of other lovely places. Haven't seen one Brit boat.

I am based in NE Italy and have sailed to Slovenia with a UK registered yacht; there are no entry requirements whatsoever, they have taken their EU membership in the intended spirit with no declaring in or costs - just arrive. Totally unlike their ex-Yugoslavian compatriots in Croatia that retain the old totalitarian state bureaucracy and payments.

Piran, as you surmise, is small and, although charming, not the logical choice, although it is many years since I was there. Unfortunately what is the logical choice is one of the marinas of Portoroz or Izola as the anchoring possibilities anywhere else in that limited coastline are rare and weather-dependent.

Agreement with above. Slovenia is part of Schengen zone. Be aware that you do have to formally check out of Slovenia in Piran before going on to Croatia- with probably Umag as first port of entry. Portoroz is expensive.

Thank you for those useful replies. In the end we decided to go straight to Umag (where entry bureaucracy was much easier than Druz when we entered last year). Cheers
