Does anyone know what access there is either side of high tide? I've been to the yacht club a couple of times but never ventured up to the Sloop.

We only draw about a metre.

Only been up there once a few years ago now on my very first boat. i remember we were on top of a large tide and it was ok although not much room to tie up and not somewhere i would feel comfortable staying for long. think if you plan an hour either side of high you might be ok on springs?

is the yacht club still nice? I used to go there as a kid on our sailing boat but havent been back for years.

I'm not sure there is any public access apart from the slipway at the top of the creek there. The pub isn't particularly worth going out of your way for, part of a large chain with the cheap generic Sunday carvery and food straight from the deep fat fryer/microwave to your table.

One of the local eating out websites describes it thus:

"...It seems fair to say that the Sloop is consistently aiming straight between the eyes of the bottom of the market and blasting it with both barrels. It's friendly and clean, it's open all day every day, and there's even a beer garden with a great view. If you don't mind fighting the crowds, and you're not bothered about the provenance of your food or any kind of culinary innovation, you will find nowhere on the Island that can beat it."

A better pub to visit is the Fishbourne, leave the boat at the Royal Vic, walk down past Wightlink into the village and it's on the left, same people as the New Inn at Shalfleet and the Boathouse at Seaview.

Thanks for that. Might just run up at high five to look at the scenery. The yacht club is OK if you can get a table outside. A good description would be cheap and cheerful.
