Hi,

Pretty mush all said in the subject line.. We are looking to trailer our 26ft power cruiser but don't know how practical that is in terms of being able to get her in and out of the water when we want to head out.. Would need a good slipway with a concrete surface that's wide enough and accessible enough for a boat that size..

Any ideas?

Hmm.. Interesting.. They seem to have a 21ft limit in the boatyard and have "conditions" to anything larger.. As you say might be worth a phone call..

Are there any other places like this Simpson Marine that are happy with slightly larger boats?
Really want to be able to work on her as well so having access to water and electricity would be needed too.. :)

Ah! understood. I thought it was just launch facilities you wanted. Their boatyard is probably not what you require, but Simsons adjoins Newhaven Marina who have a much larger storage area where people work on their boats. Simpsons do mostly day launches of ribs, speed boats etc: It may be that Newhaven Marina will find room for you in their yard if you take it in on your trailer and later Simpson will launch it for you.
Up river, North of the Swing bridge at Newhaven is Cantells Yard. http://www.cantellsboatyard.co.uk/workshop.html. Access is tidal (dries completely ) But you really need to give them a call as it's not the sort of place where you can just turn up on the flood and get a berth. Helpful folk though so worth a call. :)

Thanks Downsman.. Very useful information..

You had it right.. My original post was just for launching and I was trying to find a storage warehouse type place to rent to store her so I could work on her but I think a boat yard is probably the better option..

Recently, in Cantells yard there were at least two boats under owner built 'tents' both being worked on at weekends. If you have no luck elsewhere Cantells may suit. It's not glamourous mind..:D more old style do-it-yourself type territory but until the RNLI got their own refit/maintenance facilities their lifeboats used to be sprayed/refurbished at Cantells so the knowledge is still in the yard.
I'm not connected, it just happens to be on one of my occasional walks up the river.

Have you looked at either Littlehampton or Shoreham. Littlehampton has a storage yard and you pay per yr and turn up and launch subject to tide, Shoreham you bring it there and park your car they launch and store your trailer. Or there is a free on a t Littlehampton but you have to find a space for your trailer

I launch on my own. Last year the slipway at Whitehaven was closed (due to Festival) so I took it 15 miles up the coast to Maryport, used their slipway and went by sea to Whitehaven. This is the sort of thing you might have to do where you are. Also the slipway at White haven is rubbish as it has a underwater lump out of sight and my trailer wheel wont reverse over it over it when reversing down with no boat on. whereas the slipway at Maryport is superb.

Can you still launch at Emerald Quay on Shoreham Beach? There also used to be Lady B marina at Shoreham, and the Sussex Yacht club (I'm probably a bit out of date with all this, I think the last time I launched a boat at any of those was 9 years ago).

Cheers

Simpsons Marine have said she is too big so they can't launch her.. I would have attempted it on the Simpsons slipway but that's just me..

Will probably end up keeping her in the water unless a good slipway turns up.. Would also still need to get a trailer which could also be a challenge.. :)

the one in shoreham I know is just past halfords, its the jet ski place you park outside they come out with a tractor and couple up you take your car to car park opposite, they take boat to the top of slipway and you getready and then launch you and put your trailer in their area of beach. this is to the right of the yacht club as you look from the sea and is just by the harbour entrance. There is a free on down the way but its muddy and not easy to turn round.

I liked shoreham as when you come back its the opposite of the launch so you can wash down.
