The cushions on our saloon benches keep slipping around. They are supposed to be kept in place by patches of Velcro, but this does not seem to work too effectively. Does anyone one have alternative suggestions to cajole the things to staying put?

If they are slipping off the front of the bench, then you can put a small wooden upwards lip on the front of the seat.

This can be as small as 15mm high - it needs to be low enough that the back of your knee doesn't rest on it when the cushion compresses with your weight.

I achieved this by using a length of 2x1 hardwood screwed to the front of the bench, with the top rounded over with a router. Works a treat.

I've found gluing or sewing patches of that rubber non-slip netting very useful. You can buy it very expensively in chandlers and cheaply in rolls at B&Q.

I also use it for rugs on varnished floors at home

I've even glued it to the bottom of mugs, which has it's pros and cons as the mug remains amazing static on a heeling table until it reaches a particular point then tumbles.

Don't laugh but the non slip stuff you can buy on a roll to lay in trays works well. It won't stop them falling off but it is good at stopping stuff sliding and you don't fix it down, just lay it in place.

G'day Tiggertoo,

We had the same problem but it was the backrest part of the cushions in the cockpit of out cat, we removed the Velcro patches and replaced them with full length 6.5 foot strips, one at the top and another along the bottom, no more problems even in bad weather.

Avagoodweekend.

You need the 3M PROPER "Dual Lock" Velcro stuff, not the flimsy on-a-roll stuff.

I have just used it for mounting Digi-boxes vertically - there is no way they will release their grip !

Got from a mate of mine - so can't help with supply source I'm afraid- but should be easy enough to google.

Velcro comes in different grades. The big stuff you ll need a JCB to seperate! Ages since I bought some, so cant recall where I afraid.. think it was tent fabric or specialist cloth (polartec) wholesalers. Try google. These companies are SO helpful you wonder how they make any money!! Velco will do, you just need the heavy duty stuff!
