Slipping clutch on Yanmar 1gm!

Well, thats what it seems like! Engine runs fine, but when put in gear, we get very slow forward movement despite increasing revs, then all of a sudden after engaging and disengaging gear theres a clonk and wer'e away. Also get strong vibration which smoothes out. Any ideas would be helpful.

Mine used to behave in that way. I puzzled over it for months, then discovered the bronze woodruff key to the prop had sheared. So the prop was sometimes loose, sometimes binding, sometimes a bit of each. You could motor along happily for hours, go into neutral for some reason, then find there was no drive afterwards. If you could dry out I'd check the prop, if only to eliminate it.
