I have a bit of a friction problem on my boat and I need your help to solve it.
The remote engine controls on my yacht are very very stiff and I think that I have managed to narrow it down to the levers in the cockpit rather than the cables or engine end.
The levers go through the cockpit wall, through the control bracket, through the cable arm and are secured by a nut. (I hope that I have not lost you already. The problem that I have is that there is a fair amount of friction between the lever and the cockpit wall on the outboard end, and more friction on the inboard end between the cable arm and bracket.
A previous owner has fashioned some nylon (or plastic) discs (2 on each side) which I assume are to reduce this friction.
Can anyone suggest a better material to use for these disc's to further reduce the friction. I thought of some sort of Teflon (Like one of those oven liners you can get at the supermarket) but do not know if that would work.
Any suggestions.
