I have a typical modern French sailing cruiser (Gib'sea 302) with a bathing platform & "sugar-scoop" stern.

When sleeping in the aft cabin, the constant slapping of water on the underside of the stern is blimmin' intrusive. Even the smallest "wavelets" can cause this to happen.

I've thought about tring to rig a couple of fenders under the stern to see it it makes any difference, but wondered if anyone has had any other bright ideas...?

Cheers,

Graham.

It does not matter what shape of stern I think it is a problem with all aft cabins. Maybe not on a canoe stern but I dont think they have aft cabins. It doesnt bother me but there were some positive responses with practical sollutions on the previous post.

It is no help to you but isn't this a main decision when deciding what boat to buy? One of the criteria for choosing our Bavaria 36 (2 cabin version) was because it has an enormous bright (3 hatches) forecabin with lots of storage and a large bed.

It funny really what irritates us when we are trying to sleep.
I cannot stand a halyard rattling the mast but SHMBO loves it. She thinks is relaxing and gives her a feeling of security. Me I'm livid and end up bare arsed on deck at 0300 securing loose ropes or rattling blocks so I can get some shut eye.
We love it really.
regards.

Peter.
