SL Hyspeed - worth repairing or not?

My elderly Westerly Berwick is equipped with an elderly Simpson Lawrence Hyspeed windlass. I’ve had the boat 10 years and in all that time the hauling in function has never worked, although the clutch does and you can haul in manually over the gipsy. It may be as simple as a broken or corroded chain, but before I consider stripping it down, are service kits available anywhere? I don’t want to start, and find it cannot be used at all due to broken bits I cannot replace! I do wonder whether it is better just to replace with a new windlass…

I think this is the thing Dennis:

I fixed mine but I am not sure it was worth the bother.........About ten years ago it stopped hauling, it has internal gearing acting a bit like a freewheel hub on a pushbike, but two of them so you have traction on one stroke to haul the chain up and then move the gear on to haul again.
Anyway it stopped and the fix was to have the shaft metal sprayed and reground to make up the worn diameter. It cost over £100 then and I deduced I could have probably bought a used replacement.

Where are you? I may have something in the shed that would do the job for the 100 quid but I think it has a 10mm gypsy.....

.

Ignore the above, mine was a SL Seahorse.

However, I have been into the shed and the spare is a Hyspeed as per the photo. It has a 8mm gypsy so might be suitable.

That might be an option. However, I’m based in the Midlands. I’ll DM you
