I have used this service and can vouch for the great quality, with no delay to keep in touch with friends around the world who are on the move. I use a laptop and a small (cheep!) plug in mic.
Re: Skype - over 2million people logged on... and a couple logged out
My daughter lives in the States and it became de rigeuer for us to use Skpe to communicate. That was until she had a major problem with her hard disk de-fragmentising ( if that is the correct terminology)...... the people who repaired her machine said that Skype had been the major contributing factor.
I also had problems with it when using computer it in multi-user wireless mode .
I still think it is brilliant ... BUT to say it has no problems is posssibly premature.
Re: Skype - over 2million people logged on... and a couple logged out
www.skype.com is high quality but only if you both have broad band, when im on dial up or really slow conection i use www.eyeballchat.com no echo and the web cam always works that way when the audio crashes we can hold up writen notes!!!
Better to have both and choose which skype also works with PDA s
Started using it at the weekend and very impressed. Although I was already aware of it, the cost benefit was emphasized by a friend with a daughter on a gap year teaching assignment in Thailand. Using 'Skype out' (PC to mobile/landline) the cost of calls is hugely cheaper.
However, Eurosceptics won't be amused as the Skype Out charges in Euro!
Despite intial sceptism (It can't be that good if it is free can it?) I am now a Skype zealot! Having emmigrated to Canada last year it has proved an invaluable tool to chat with family and friends back in Blighty. We use both the free peer to peer service and the Skypeout peer to telephone service. The latter is approx 80% saving per minute over the local telco! I use cheapo microphone and speakers on the home pc and built in speakers/microphone on my ibm thinkpad laptop and it all works fine.
