Skiving

Some will have taken in that I have traded my career in IT to become a boat bum. This is arduous work, I have been refurbishing my saily boat etc.,, but today Mrs. S and I took some time off.

Going round Langness we spotted one of these:

Risso's Dolphin

and more...

they came very close (engine off!).

A school of c. 20. Never seen Risso's before, and they obviously liked us because they came and played for around 15 minutes before moving on.

Heading North we poked our noses into Derbyhaven

and then we passed the construction for the airport runway extension..

and came across one of the giant barges supplying the stone for the promontory

before meandering up to Port Soderick

We weren't the only people skiving off...

this chap had come a long way .....

Of course there were other denizens of the deep around...

The picture doesn't do justice, this fella is the best part of a metre across.

So what's it like boating in the middle of the Irish Sea then....

You know, I may just have to go over there and ruin the idyll, then head over to Malahide and sort out the SV crew. All this good weather boaty stuff is not good for us workers.

No -- the first one was Risso's dolphin (Grampus greaseus).

Dunno who the others belong to

Common Dolphin.
'Delphinus Delphis'.
Anyway.
Bottle nosed Dolphins.
The genus 'Tursiops' are the most common.
A well known member of the 'Delphinade'

There are many types.
We are lucky in and about the Irish Sea.

To see these marvelous ceatures.

A large 'pod' was sighted off of the West coast of Anglesey a couple of weekends ago.
Leaping about and yelping squeeky sounds as if realy excited.

Although Man has had difficulty translating these Mammals speak.
I have had a really in Depth Consultation with a really Top Marine Scientist at Bangor University.
This Establishement is Renowed World wide.


However..


I can see from the evidence.

The Dolphins are saying to Me.

Some of us have to work. Empires to build, taxes to pay, no time for mid week cruises. I'm only jealous and am determined to collect that pint you owe me soon.
