Skipper fined for inappropriate letting off of flares

It's one thing to let the first one off (which he shouldn't of done and I guess was very lucky not to cause a heath fire) but to set 2 further ones off after being given a ticking off from the HM!!

I once set an orange smoker off in my dads garage by accident (I was about 14 so accidentially means messing about!!)

I came out coughing and spluttering looking like I had been tango'd. Not one surface was free from orange dust. All his tools where outlined on the walls and
his Honda Goldwing never did look the same again :):):)

I was also fined......no pocket money :(

Sounds a bit harsh.

I did the same with an old flare. God what a mess!

Some years ago a silly bod set off disused flares up in the foothills of the mountains one Halloween night as a means to dispose of them. He thought they would not be noticed with all the fireworks going off in the area, but they were spotted triggering a false alarm and SAR response involving mountain rescue teams and a chopper.

I remember as a kid my dad letting off out of date parachute flares in the garden on November 5th. Fortunately in suburbia no search was ever triggered, always seemed a very exciting way of getting rid. how times change...

I wonder if it might be possible to request a dispensation on maybe Nov 5th to offload a few flares?.....Pre inform the CG of time location sort of thing! Just wondering....

Bit of a bugga if you're on a yacht in genuine distress ...

at a world super bike meeting at donnington, everybody lets of fireworks etc... this was about 20 years ago, i had a bag full of thunder flashes and other assorted pyro, including paraflares,
two of those up and the whole of donnington was lit up like daylight.
only then in our drunken state did someone point out, that maybe letting them off at the end of a major runway might not be such a good idea...
