Ah the joys of non-boat ownership, eating out twice a week, interest payment on the current account, no worries about damp, condensation, vandalism, fuel bugs, stress cracking, osmosis, milky oil in the outdrive, press-studs pulling out of the aluminium frames..... you know the score.

But after six months respite, I've gone and done it again, bought another boat.

Just to make sure I'll be really skint, it's even one with a big 5.7 V8 petrol !! Thank god it's only got one, and I wont have to fill two holes in the transon this time!

The plus point is that is has a Bravo drive, so maybe the diesel swap'l be even easier this time.

Oh, and it's an American lake boat as well, but not sure if Rinker's have pop riveted hull/topside joints do they?

Any other Rinker owner regulars other than 'about to buy a Sealine' Big Al ??

Any one know much about 265's or 5.7's, and what the hell is Thunderbird, or was it bolt ignition?

And will it really use 20 gph at £4 a gallon............. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Well done Rinker are at the high end of the spectrum and my shares in BP are bound to go up . I would advice any boat in the Humber to do it now because there won,t be any left after the weekend after this rinker drinks it all going down the Humber. Just joking good luck, where are you keeping the boat ?

Great news Martyn, lets have more details. Sorry I didn't respond to your text but phone battery was flat and only just picked message up today.

Away the boat tomorrow till Tuesday but will give you a ring when I get back and perhaps we could have a pint. (I'm even back drinking real beer again now)

Where is the new boat Humber or Naburn?

Congratulation on buying what must be one of the better American Brand of boats on the market..

As Martyn says ,give us more info, And some Pics would be nice......

What year is it?
And i doudt it would use 20gph,
Mine ok be it 2' smaller does have i think a more powerful engine than yours (260hp), and on a recent test it worked out at cruising speed, i was using only 4gph, Yes i didn't believe it at first either.

So what made you buy a Rinker??

But Martyn(MedDreamer) Should we allow him back into the Petrolheads Club again???

Oh, and by the way, You can now join the Rinkers Owners Club.
Well done again.

Cheers
Alistair.

Hi Martyn. Rinkers are fine boats, you should enjoy this one! What year is it? The reason I ask is that the year will define the V8 lump. Does it say EFI on the cam box? If it does its the later model.

Worst case fuel figures for these are 4gph if you are nice to it and 7 if you aren't. The EFI (electronic fuel injection) is even better.

Nice smooth running motor which, if well insulated, should sound sowing machine-ish, and that's a compliment not a critisism.

I was out on a Searay 19 bowrider last weekend, which is powered by just this motor and it went like a rocket at 55mph!!

Have fun!!

Thanks for the replies Martyn, Alistair, Dave.

I'll post some other photos in due course, but if you visit the essexboatyards.com web site, you should find it, a Rinker 265 Fiesta Vee (much reduced to £17K!).

Quite a good price IMHO for a 1995 vintage with 350 hours, and looking generally in good order (I'm really excited about the electric windlass, now I've got something in common with tcm!).

Don't think it's EFI, and it seems to have had a new gimball housing fitted recently, since it says 'diesel' on it, and looks very shiney. (So no re-badging required for my forthcoming article in Feb 2006 MBM!!).

The cabin seems cramped compared with the Birchwood, but it has a super 5ft by 7ft double under the cockpit.

The main reason for the latest discount of £5Kseems to be because the covers were ripped off in the gales a couple of months ago (something else in common with D2!). So it now comes with a sand pit in the cockpit, and lots of broken bits of blue covers, but hopefully I can get that sorted for a few hundred.

Problem now is finding a mooring, problem seems to be in Yorkshire that no one can afford houses any longer so they're all buying ditch crawlers.......watch this space...........

From the pictures it looks a cracking boat for your money, you should be able to tow it as well.

Thanks Jim,

According to a copy of a previous survey report, it did used to have a trailer, but sometime in the last few years they must have parted company.

Now I wish that I'd gone for a more beefy 4x4 than the CRV, perhaps MedDreamer will lend me his Disco if I need a tow!

I don't think you will have any Issues with the boat yard, they have been great with us and all we know!

If you are after a trailer the 'Rapide Trailer' that they have for sale is ours. Available at a great discount if interested!

Cheers

Hi Martin

Your new boat looks a beaut! Happy cruising!

I have the 5.7L V8. Badged a Mercruiser, though I believe it has Chevy origins. 4 to 7 gph sounds realistic from my experience. But it's difficult to be nice to! Provides a satisfying deep gurgle when ticking over in the marina, but the fun really starts when the fuel injection kicks in!

Why think of ditching the petrol? By the time you're ready to move on to your next boat red diesel will be on its way out and your petrol V8 will be in demand!
