Short version: if I accidentally made a skin fitting rotate in place by a small about whilst maintaining a valve, do I need to remove and rebed?

Long version:

Ok so I was trying to a remove a 1 1/2" gate valve for a new ball valve and in the process the whole skin fitting spun in place rather than then old gate valve. Not surprising given that it's about 18 years old.

Anyway, at the same time I tried to remove a small 3/4" seacock next to it to give access and yes it spun the skin refitting rather than the valve instead.

So in both cases, since the skin fittings was able to rotate very slightly (on a few degrees), does that mean it is now totally compromised and needs to be removed and rebedded?

It makes sense to do it whilst you're out of the water. Just think of the sleepless nights for the first few weeks after you relaunch.

Probably, but if it isn't leaking much, it probably isn't a big deal, yet. If you are out of the water (winter refit) it would be silly not to sort it out before launch as you won't know how much it will leak until it's too late.

If it has moved you will have broken the seal, whether it will leak enough to be a wory remainns to be discovered but as you will have to remove it to properly reseal you may as well rplace it.

+1 - even if it appears to be OK it will be on your mind. In any case, chances are if the seal has been broken, water will get in.

Yes.

You've broken the adhesion between the sealant and the Hull and it now needs to come off and be resealed.
If its not fitted with a proper backing plate then now would be a good time to put one on.

Given how much of a mission it has been to get these things off and causing this problem I may just grind out the old skin fittings from outside and fit new ones.

However I have a row of these types on either side. Does anyone know the official name and what I can get them from?

That is a breather so will be piped to the top of thanks such as fuel, water or sewage holding.

Standard chandlers item although different makers types may vary visually.

Ok well just above the water line I have outlets for grey, bildge, deck drains etc. They look just like those breathers but are bronze skin fittings. No doubt they are made like that to protect the ball valves and stop any slopping noice.

Any idea what they are called so I can source more?

Same thing, although common outlets. Probably used to stop water flowing back but are not positive one way. Available in common sizes - - guess yours are 3/4 or 1". Usually suppliers such. Vetus, Aquafax, ASAP will have them but any decent chandler will stock them.
