Ski wear

I'd be inclined to go the other way around.

Ski stuff may not be waterproof enough & it may be too warm. To be honest, there's lots of cheap rubbish around.

I have a lot of friends who ski who occasionally come sailing, so I just get them to bring their jackets. The trousers don't seem to cut it though.

That said I've taken to wearing my ski trousers inside my offshore kit for winter racing. Warm, waterproof enough to cope with the odd leak from my Mustos, and padded for comfort on a hard deck!

Lidl and Aldi have both stocked skiwear that is more than adequate, warm and waterproof enough for most conditions, I wear tham all the time. If it rains hard or waves are coming over the boat, put your oilies over the top

I have a pair of Lidl ski trousers I use all the time in the winter. They are excellent. They are very warm, wash well and reasonably waterproof - I put my foot in the river on Saturday (missed a rung on the Quay wall ladder), I simply shook my leg & it dried off!

IIRC, they only cost about a tenner, superb value.

More used to the idea of sailing gear being used on slopes. Most of us hope to sail our boats for weeks but only ski once a year. Having said that, partner and I were very pleased with Aldi ski gear we bought last year. Good quality.

I'm not sure about salopettes but often boarding trousers have some extra padding in the seat and knees which would be handy sailing. One feature I like about ski jackets is the snow collar around your waist which seals to your saloppettes or trousers. Handy for keeping the warm air inside!

Re: Ski wear - Caution

I'm going skiing next week and will be using my Christmas present, a Musto coastal jacket. Only difference is there's no powder skirt round the waist. Also ski gear costs a zillion times more than boat stuff and is out of fashion as soon as you put it on. Nothing wrong with a pair of oilies and sou'wester on the piste, skis mailed to old rolled down wellies. Did see a bloke in Scotland skiing in an offshore survival suit and have to say he looked a total tw*t...
