CliveG, they damage from inside the box IMO doesn't look much, but as you have done the outside photo's as well I can see that there is more than met the eyes.

Will the wood paneling beside the box have to come out to carry out the repair from the out side? I would guess that you will also have to do some work inside the box as well.

Not knowing much about lifting keel boats, is there much clearance between keel and box?.

There is very little clearance around the steel shoe that is bolted to the top of the keel about 2 to 3mm across the width and about 5 mm in the length.
The wood paneling is the main bulkhead and forward of it is the frame work that carries the mast loads into the bulkhead and has the hydraulic ram that lifts the keel.
No chance of moving any of that.

it looks to me like there has been a repair done earlier, fiberglass only shows those rounded bumps if either air or moisture had got in during a repair or manufacture.

Can you get your hands into the box to acess all areas?

I can see what appear to be cracks, now i dont know if im teaching my granny to suck eggs but all cracks in fiberglass have to be stopped and to stop them you drill a hole at the ends of the crack, you also have to dig out all of the damaged area and make sure that the surfaces are scored and dry.

Have you worked with fiberglass resin and hardener before?

It may be an idea to manufacture a mould out of plastic and to cover the surface of the mold with wd40 or some other releasing agent.

fiberglass resin once mixed can get very hot of you put too much hardener in it,the firste time i mixed up the resin and hardener i sat the pot in the corner and after 10 mins or so it started spouting off like a volcano and it was very hot,it could easily have burst into flames.

I will be down in Cambridge this Saturday,as long as i can get away early enough i could pop in and have a look,it all depend on when i can get away from Baston
