Sir Robin to compete in Powerboat race

True enough; when you can get around as fast as we can, there's always time for a bit of horizontal jogging, a sh!t, shower and shave and a Full English. And we'll still be there before you :p :D

What simple minds you must have.
Best you continue to go play with your noisey, smelly toys, but I wish you wouldn't do it in my back garden!

[Sarky Mode]Your back garden? You own the Solent?

I bow down to your majesty.

I shall, of course, inform those nasty ferries and container ships to check in with you before polluting your playground.[/Sarky Mode]

The whole mobo / raggy row thing is what spoils boating for me. It is amazing how often I have spoken to someone before they see me go back to my mobo and then I get ignored. How silly is that?

It is a real shame that this argument seems to go on constantly.

I do the sailing and motorboat thing, I work for sailing and motorboat magazines. I have met nice, friendly and all round good sorts on both motor and sailing boats. I have met sailors who have gone over to motor boats, and motor boaters who have gone over to sailing. Both by choice. I've also met sailors how are no longer able to sail but still enjoy being on the water, so have bought a motor boat.

Surely that's what it's all about, enjoying being on the water, at anchor or in a marina, whatever floats your boat.

The only real difference between sailing boat owners and motorboat owners is that motor boater tend to have more money...IMHO most of the sour grapes are caused by jealousy and ignorance.

Yes there are tits who own motorboats, but there are also a lot of tits who own sailing boats as well....Move on, get over it, life it too short to spend in whinging and whining about this boat and that. Boating is a lot more enjoyable if you leave your problems and prejudices on the dock

It is stupid statements like that from a small minority of motorboaters who seem to think they are in someway superior that "need leaving on the dock". I am neither jealous (if I was given a motorboat I would sell it and buy a sailing boat because I prefer them) nor ignorant (I have my advanced level powerboat which gives me a reasonable level of knowledge).

You should spend less time sat on other people's fly bridges if it makes you think you can look down on people.

OK, please read what I wrote again: IMHO most of the sour grapes are caused by jealousy and ignorance...

First off, are you bitter towards motor boaters?

If not then my opinion doesn't (and wasn't intended to) include you, it's the bitterness that yachtsmen regard mobos with, that narks me off, the feeling that somehow yachties are somehow morally/intellectually superior to motorboaters. When infact we're all the same ;)

If you are bitter towards motorboaters....why?

Sorry to disappoint, but I don't look down on people, I like to treat everyone the same whether they sail a mirror dinghy or are the MD of Princess Yachts. Apologies if it came across that way.

I have no bitterness towards motorboaters, I have friends who own motorboats and I will socialise with sociable people whatever they own. If you look back over the posts in this thread you will see that bitterness is not unique to raggies.

My only disappointment is that you made a post that comes across as being from someone who thinks he is morally superior because he can mix with his "rich" motor boat friends. If that wasn't your intention then I accept your apology

I know what you mean. It doesn't spoil boating for me but sometimes it presents a challenge.

When inviting a raggie to my boat, when they arrive and see its a mobo some step aboard tentatively, touching it gently with a toe like its a turd.

It is with great satisfaction I look at their faces when, almost inevitably, their wife asks why they can't have a comfy boat like this.

The best bit however, is without the constraint of the extremes of views that end up being expressed by the use of only the written word, we part as friends.

A friend recently lent me his mobo mag (don't know which one). Anyone apart from reading the article ofnlifejackets I wanted, I read the guide to the Solent, which included a feature on Newtown. The comment went along the lines of "Newtown can be popular with Raggies, but don't let all the sail boats put you off". Kind of got me thinking a bit .....firstly, that a publiction would print someting so prejudice.... but then it occurred to me that maybe that's the way us raggies are viewed in the mobo world....as something to avoid? Anyway I'm with Snooks on this. one The water is for enjoying and whilst the odd power boat can get too close and wash becomes a problem, most of my negative encounters are with yachties. The unpleasant Bavaria owners wife who (in front of my young kids) shouted "F off" after failing to realise their need to give way whilst under power springs to mind. I do find there is an intellectual arrongance with sailing possibly because we assume greater techincal prowess (the ability to sail a machine rather than operate a throttle & steering wheel) we assume we know everything. I'm finding the knowlege of col regs is far better in the majority of mobos than yachts in the Solent.

This race is only once a year so a reality check is needed.

ps don't get me started on the H2o show. Fantastic. A living ledgend, I could listen to him all day....and then they go and put that awful shelley jory on with him. I'm afraid I have to turn off
