one of the blokes on a wooden boat building forum - yes I know I should not be there as I have enough boats - has come up with a genius design for a single sheet canoe

The little people around here, Leprechauns and such like, use currachs. Iirc the native Indians sent over money to help Irish famine victims in 1845, so I'm sure canoes would be well received.

I'll get building.

Which, sadly was more than the English Government did - plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

It looks to be about 12' long & 18" wide without scaling it out, which is a normal canoe size. I'm sure it is just a designer's model as proof of concept, but I reckon it would look just as delightful in full size. Beautifully simple, neat & efficient. And even easier to carry than the flat sheet would be.

I love it, but, like Dylan, my wife thinks I have too many boats already having just bought a 1970's Stowaway folder from a Charity shop. Altho I reckon boats for men, are like "Knickers, shoes & handbags" for ladies, you can never have too many

I actually built one of these one sheet canoes about 30 years ago,I was given the plans so I have no idea who the designer was but I certainly cursed him as he could never built it in real life. The curves were quite tight for its length and using cheap ply very prone to cracking. Using good marine ply defeats the object of a one sheet canoe so I would spend another £30 on another sheet and get a much more usable canoe not to mention easier to build.
This one may work out ok but I would let someone build the first one and learn from there mistakes. Having said the above its still a fun project and I learnt a lot, I also sold it for the cost of the materials two years later.
