Has anyone experience with the current model Dehler 38 or the Dufour 36 Performance?

They both have massively wide sterns, but both have single rudder. Some others have twin rudder (Elan 350, Figaro 2, Bavaria 40 etc).

I'm just thinking if you sailed a single rudder, wide stern boat like that Elan in the pic then you'd have serious control issues!

Thanks!

I think waterline beam and shape of hull in the stern is the key factor.

So if the waterline beam is large and the hull shape is flat, like the Elan 350, then when healed it will sit on the chine and a single rudder will lift out of the water unless it's mounted fairly well forward.

However, it looks like the Dehler is quite narrow on the waterline, and quite rounded.

So a single rudder stays immersed. Think the Dufour is the same.

However, I'd be surprised if the next generation of either the Dehler or the Dufour have single rudders. It's definitely becoming the norm.
