We have recently acquired a Moody S31 which came with a Simrad TP30 tiller pilot. We have been on a couple of trips and had to snatch off the pilot from the tiller as it spontaneously took us away to starboard and then later to port. With the associated panic !
We wondered if any contributors may have experienced similar problems and can make any suggestions as to how we can keep our pilot under control.

Thanks EarlyBird we have been thinking about the pilot plug and socket connection. Do you know how we can check the supply wiring ?

Tracing the wiring as far back as possible, enabling a visual examination of the connections would be easiest, including dismantling the plug and socket to see inside. Also, don't forget any switch and fuse-holder in the supply circuit.

If you are happy to open it up it is worth checking that the two tiny magnets embedded in the large black cog are present, they have been known to come loose. Retighten the screws with caution when you reassemble the case as over-tightening can crack off the lugs the screws go into.
