Until I get enough funds to upgrade the Simrad RT64 vhf that came with the boat, I could do with sourcing a replacement fist mic as the curly cable is all scabby, and the ptt button doesn't fill me with confidence.
The Simrad website doesn't list it under accessories, so does anyone know the model number for a replacement, or even a pattern copy that will work?
as always, TIA
Chris

The fist mic is a FTM5, but it's obsolete. The Service Centre did list a replacement on eBay, but that ad isn't live any longer. Maybe email them and ask. The Service Centre | eBay Stores

However, the replacement mic was about £100 and a cheaper solution would be to buy a used RD68 radio, which has the same FTM5 mic. You can often find used ones in reasonable condition on eBay for about £40.

I agree with pvb, I've got the same radio and have sent the fist mic back for rewiring twice now, as the original cabling splits. Still it only costs costs around 20 quid so not too much and saves the hassle of fitting new radio. Radio works fine, I am a great supporter of 'Repair it' rather than 'bin it' on environmental grounds.

Do you send it back to Simrad for rewiring?
I hate binning things too. I use a soldering iron most days, so I may look for some curly cable when I know how many cores I need.
I only intend to eventually upgrade to get DSC.
