Hi all, the Outer sheath on my RS 82 handset cable has degraded at both handset and plug end, does anyone know someone who can replace the cable ? ideally uk south coast (based Poole) But recognise I my need to go further afield.

In previous life we used to repair marine radios. It was virtually impossible to obtain a lead with the unique plug to repair this handset and other types of radio which used similar lead/ plugs.
The only way to fix was to cut off plug and internal mike connection and splice onto new nasty cheapo generic tinsle curly cable.
A bit of shrink wrap really was the icing on the cake to complete the unsightly bodge.
Simrad and other radios with weedy cables and moulded plugs with unique pin outs simply became more trouble and expence to repair than the radio was worth.
The real problem was the marine radio market kowtowing to designers not wanting to sully the glossy splendor of the dash with waste of valuable shiney space with stuff such as marine radios, far better to hide it somewhere invisable and difficult to find/reach, the handset display was tiny and impossible to read.
Duff mike, sorry mate, you need to change the entire unit and dismantle the dash to do so.
You could try the manufacturers but suspect we already know the answer to that.
Do what everybody else does, insulating tape and then buy an Icom next time.. :)

Actually, I don't rate Icom - I've had bad kit from them as well.
Standard Horizon is my preferred kit.

Our boat was fitted with a Simrad RSxx - one of the most expensive in the market - IMHO it is carp!!
Even my handhelds perform better than the Simrad.
I still have it and have changed the cord (see other thread) - I didn't want to make another hole in the dash.
It does look flash - shame it isn't any good!!

ICOM.........but they still will repair , even stuff decades old. Folks , inc me, have in the past dropped of stuff into their Herne Bay workshop for hurry up repairs, try that with other box shifters. :)
