Simrad RD68 lost positioning info.

Hi my VHF DSC has lost it's positioning info. Before I start testing wires and connections is there anything that an idiot (me) could have done to disable it? From the manual it appears that the red and blue wires connect to the Raymarine plotter and then the info. should then show on the radio display screen. This plotter is working currently but I am sure the position info. was present even when the plotter was previously turned off.

VHF transmission is currently 'weak but readable' so I am about to experiment with replacing the 16 year old coax. I don't think the two are linked (but please tell me I am wrong)

The VHF gets the position information from a GPS or a chart plotter with a built in GPS. There will be a two wire connection from the GPS to the radio.
Sounds like the system providing the gps position and time has failed. Maybe a loose connection at the radio.
