Simrad or Raymarine? tiller pilots

Some years back, PBO published a quite extensive set of tests of various Raymarine and Navico, (now Simrad ) tiller pilots.
Course holding and power consumption were data-logged.
The conclusion was that Raymarine held a slightly tighter course at the expense of higher amps and a 'busier' drive.
There was mention of Navico having secondary enclosure of electonics to improve water resistance.
I've owned both makes, and the PBO tests confirm my impressions of the Raymarine being more active.
I like the Raymarine course display and, to my mind, the slightly easier user interface.
Take your pick!!

There have been a number of posts on this, if you do a search you should got the gist.

I think earlybird has summed things up nicely. I would add that if you think you need a TP22 get a 32, if you think you need a 32 then get that built in Raymarine thing with the separate ram, it is the best, though expensive. All the rest are ok for casual use.

I have the sort of boat that can be singlehanded if the pilot lets me down, even so my TP32 struggles in some conditions, it is also noisy but has been fairly reliable. If you have a lively boat and rely on the autopilot offshore, then get the best you can afford.
If you are pottering in protected water then most will do a job.
