I need to remove my wind transducer as the wind cups are static although the wind vane is fine.
Assuming I cannot restore free spinning and the bearing needs replaced,is this a DIY task or do I need to return it to Simrads successors.
If DIY where will I get the bearing and the tool to remove?Appreciate any advice.

I'm not sure if mine is the same masthead unit an IS20 but it looks very similar. I posted here about the top bearing :

The bottom bearing was in the lower housing and looked to be easily removable. The cups are held on with small allen set-screws if I remember rightly. The shaft is held in the bearing by a c-clip either side.
I doubt if you would need any special tools ..... just a little care.
I would try lubricating the bearing first.
Sorry, no photos .... and the unit is at the top of my mast.
If you want to post some pics if you get stuck, I'll see if I can help ....

If you cant get it working.
You will find it virtually impossible to get a new or old spare IS15 MHU.
The only other alternative may be to use an IS20 MHU but you will also need an NMEA 2000 to 0183 converter and have a very big wad of notes!
