How can I 'Test' the aerial of a Simrad GPS ?
Cable tests OK end to end, and there is a small resistance when tested with the AE fitted, but nothing is picked up by the Unit itself, which still works fine as a Depth sounder.

check for 5vdc out of the connector on the back of the display.

if okay, plug another gps antenna in, anything on a BNC will work, garmin etc.

Also plug antenna into another unit.

It could be the display!

If it is the stick type one then using your meter, you should see about 1.2k ohms up the cable (disconnected from set). The square DGPS ones are about 1.4k Ohms.

Even if the resistance is about right, the aerial can still be u/s as the internal amp may have gone.

I can get one for you if you need one.

It is the square type that we have. How much would another AE cost please, to a UK Mainland address ? ''Just in cae ! '' Cheers !
