looking on getting a simrad tillerpilot, tp22 or tp 32, can't make up mind which one.

Have had the raymarine st2000+ in the past, and its now past its sell by date, as it has been repaired 3 times, and keeps going wrong, so time to get rid.

The simrad is supposed to have the internals encapsulated in a resin to maximise weatherproofing, is this true or myth.

Can't confirm truth/myth bit, but we've got the ST2000 and a mate with a similar boat has the Simrad equivalent. His gets used loads, including the link up with GPS and has given stirling service. Ours is now getting a bit aged and will probably be replaced with the Simrad.

In terms of whether to go for the TP22 or 32, I would guess it depends on how sensitive to the helm the colvic is and what the weather helm is like. If she's sensitive and well balanced, the TP22 is more than enough, IMHO. I know of several Twisters that have the TP10 which seems to also do the job. Having said that, although the Twister has a rudder of barn door proportions, they're extremely light on the helm, even when massively over pressed.

I would definately go for the TP32, which I have. The response times are quicker and the motor is bigger. When the going gets rough you will want that tiller pilot to work properly.

The electronics PCB and the compass are in a seperate sealed compartment, directly under the keypad. The motor and drive then take up the rest of the case.

So waterproofing is better than an all in one solution.

TP32 is almost twice the speed and power output of the TP22.
