Season launch yesterday and my Simrad AIS is not transmitting. It does show other vessels on the plotter. I've asked a fellow berth holder to check and they have confirmed that my vessel does not show on their plotter.

The broadband radar also didn't work but now seems fto be fne when I tried again this morning.

I'm a self confessed electronics numpty so I'd appreciated any help and advice.

I'm hoping that it's a simple connection issue. Should I simply search the plugs/connections, remove and spray with some form of snake oil?

Is there a way to prevent it happens in over subsequent winters?

The boat has all Simrad equipment and it was installed new in 2013.

Many thanks.

Nothing has been changed since October haul-out when it worked just fine. It's prior-to always worked by simply switching on "nav" on the main panel. As far as I know, all of the electrickery is enabled from this one switch on the panel.

I appreciate your help.

Was the antenna disconnected at layup?

No, it uses the Simrad antenna splitter and the vhf radio works fine.

Edit...........now I'm even more confused! I sailed single handed the 35 miles from yard to marina and my wife kept an eye on me using the vesselfinder.com site. This site shows that my boat has not moved since October haul-out. I've now just checked the marinetraffic.com site and it shows the boat in the marina berth and that my last transmission was yesterday.

When you turned it on how long did you wait before you asked the other boat owner if he was receiving?
I was asked to do a test for someone & have asked others to do tests for me. It seems that when one first turns on it takes a while for it to actually transmit. I thought it would only take 3 minutes from start up but my system takes about 10 minutes to boot on transmit (after receiving) then it takes circa another 3 minutes to collect vessel names as opposed to MMSI numbers. After that it runs OK
As for difference in vessel finder & marine traffic, that could be a case of whether you have fleet finder or some other filter switched on/off within the programme.
The fact that you are showing in marine traffic shows that you have actually transmitted

The AIS will require a number of basic elements to be in place and functioning, the MMSI, GPS position as well as the aerial being in place and working. The GPS may take some time, 10-15 minutes to find position if it's been off a while.

I can well believe that I didn't wait long enough for the check from my neighbouring boat. I was about to leave the marina to catch a train to pick-up my car and disassemble my cradle when my neighbour arrived. It was a "quick" check. They were unpacking for the weekend and I was anxious that I didn't miss the train.

I'm really pleased to see it on the marinetraffic site. I've checked the boat profile on vesselfinder but there seems nothing obviously amiss.

I'm also pleased that the digital/broadband radar has decided to burst into life. Perhaps the trip from yard to marina eventually shook it enough to make good a marginal connection. I remain convinced that electrickery is the work of the devil.

Thanks to all for taking the time to post, much appreciated.
