Simpson & Lawrence windlass

You may already have this information but I have some old notes that say the S-L A70 gypsy takes DIN766 chain in 7mm, or 1/4" BBB or 1/4" high test American chain.
But, if the model number of the windlass ends in 003 as opposed to 002 then it will take 8mm chain.
My notes relate to the S-L HySpeed windlass.
I know that 7mm DIN766 chain is a very close match to a 1/4" imperial gypsy because American chain is actually 1/32" more than the nominal size, so 1/4" chain is actually 0.28". 7mm is 0.276".
I'd suspect you have a 1/4" imperial gypsy and DIN766 8mm chain. Mismatch.

HI John it is not my windless but we bought 8mm calibrated chain out here in Jersey Uk and bought a second hand gipsy from someone in Scotland, at the time we didnt know about the gipsy number and the owner would you believe it he threw away the old one with the old chain so we have no idea what size it was. But as you know and we are learning there are an assortment of 8mm calibrated chain, so the new chain doesnt fit the A70 gipsy and we cannot find out the actual dimensions of the 8mm chain that will fit the A70. We have been back to the retailer and they are trying to establish which 8mm chain we actually bought.

You need to say what model you have I think. My SL Double Action windlass handbook says it takes "up to 3/8" (10 mm)" if that helps.
