hi I am looking for spares for a simpsonlawrence sea toilet circa 1928 vintage. Having difficulty tracking down SL, any help or advice greatly appreciated.

many thanks.

ps is to complete the restoration of Maori a 1928 TSDY built by the British Marine launch and Boat Co. OLd Kilpatrick - the Clyde Scotland. lying Spain

Just restored a 1958 model. I believe SL went to the wall (sorry!) some time ago. There were places doing seal kits for the SL400 until recently however I found the use of a sheet of neoprene and a suitable punch enabled me to restore all the soft parts. The hardest part to remove was at the back of the bowl, the two ends are only joined by two thin shafts and twisting off the ends sheared these. This could have been bodged with a pair of long bolts but I sourced a scrap one with a bit of a bowl. Having scrapped mark one I knew how to undo the one I intended to use. Most of the rest was restored with various scrapers, wire attachments to a drill, suitable acids and smooth hammerite. Unless corrosion is terminal the parts are very basic and not exacly close tolerance. Take care with bedding down the bowl to avoid cracking the porcelain.

A 1928 model will, I think, be more akin to the S-L "Kentigern" than to the SL 400 model.

Indeed it might be a "Kentigern".

S-L distinguished their product from Blakes by reference to the inlet and discharge pumps.

Blakes used, and use, separate pumps; S-L (like some American makes, I think - need Peggy Hall's advice here!) used a single pump with inlet on one side of the piston and discharge on the other. The S-L 400 series follows this principle but uses a diaphragm in place of the piston.

Kemtigerns do turn up at boat jumbles from time to time, and it might be possible to undertake a restoration. I have even seen one which had been rebuilt with Baby Blake parts - a complete "Bitser"!

I am also looking for spares for a Simpson 'Kentigern' I was assuming I would have to make all the spares but I thought i would do a quick search first. It seems you have done the work for me, thanks
