Kelpie's thread about changing a manual windlass to electric is very interesting as I'm thinking of doing the same thing.

Reason - bringing up the anchor (Rocna - not trying to start an anchoring thread) and it's 8mm chain from the mud in the Fishguard anchorage damn near killed me (slight exageration) but it was difficult.

Now the Anchorman is a robust bit of kit but this year seems stiffer even though as usual before launching I took it apart cleaned everything and lightly greased the bearing surfaces. It's pretty easy to take apart.

I am likely to replace for electric next lift out when I get back home to the East coast in the Autumn but in the meantime I still want to anchor along the way - so question is should I be using a particular grease and is there a particular bit of the bearing surfaces which is critical to smooth running.

David.
