Hi, I’m looking to fit a set of davits to my Broom. A set with a 100kg rating will work as I have an aluminium hulled rib but a little extra would be nice.
So a friend has offered me a set that he bought secondhand but never fitted. They are Simpson davits but they have no nameplate or badge indicating the model. I thought I would be able to identify them from the Cooney Simpson brochure by checking the measurements but they don’t match any of the traditional range.
Can anyone help identify these davits? Maybe you have an old brochure or similar set. The one thing that looks different is the gear drive at the winding handle. They also have a 7 hole bolt pattern on the base.

Yes, I have done extensive googling and can’t find anything that matches. The winch handle has Simpson davits stamped on them but you never know, someone might have had to improvise. I’ve emailed Cooney’s to see if they recognise them

I have a leaflet from circa 2000 when I bought my Electric 175's.

It does say that the 200 & 300 series have nine holes rather then the six of the 100 series. Dimensions are given. The profile of yours is not the same as the 100 series shown so I don't know if the 200/300 were different at the winch end.

It does say the winch cover plate should have the model & serial number. If you are lucky maybe it's been put back on reversed?

If you PM an email address I will send you a PDF of the leaflet. Hope this helps.

Paul

ps anyone know if there is a way to upload a pdf directly to this site

We have Whittall davits that have been on the boat since new. I don’t have specific dimensions etc but they are stamped 100kg. The dimensions look very similar to what you’ve posted (ours might be slightly wider at the base)and they work perfect with a 3.1m Alu rib with 9.8hp 2 stroke.

Boat is being lifted in Portumna this week but you’re welcome to measure ours or have someone do so if it gives some comfort.

One thing some people do which you might have seen is to reinforce one side which carries the outboard with a stainless post going right down to the swim platform. I’ve also see people do this on both sides and also put a post between the davits with a single post down to the platform for support. First option looks best but you would loose the ability to use one rear widow as an escape hatch or to open it fully. 2nd option removes both window ability to open fully and 3rd avoids this. It might be overkill for your dingy without a console etc. it would also mean reworking the teak on the platform.

Thanks folks. Based on the size of the baseplate and number of fixing holes, it seems to be in the 200-300kg rating range. They look like a slightly different design to the more recent traditional Simpson versions. My dinghy is only a 2.9m Talamex with a 15hp Yamaha 2 stroke so it weights around 100-110kg in total.
Whopper, I’m trying to avoid adding support legs as I would prefer to keep the bathing platform clear. I’m also looking at removing the outboard bracket on the transom as I will never use it. It’s only useful as a handhold.
Thanks folks!
