A sight gauge would be easiest, but the tank location makes that tricky.
Could work with a CCTV system :)

So I found a Henderson level gauge
http://www.hendersons.co.uk/boattank/tank-level-gauge.html

Any one got one ?

Drilling a hole in the top of my tank is not practical

Also seen flow meters, they all seem to come with dud displays, can they be hooked up to a round VDO type display ?

I've not any knowledge of this gauge but I used a simple gauge from ebay, using a piece of wire with 9 cores - each core exposed at a different level, connected to the gauge to give a level, battery operated but I've never fitted a new battery in about 8 years. Push the button and a series of lights light up to show the level. Only a few pounds, made in Germany from memory.
Sorry, I can't remember the brand.

Excellent bit of kit. Basically, it's a pressure gauge which measures the head of water in the tank. It is very easily fitted in the supply line and simple to calibrate for a specific installation too. I have the one with the vertical display and as my tank is of constant horizontal cross sectional area the indication is truly proportional.
