Can anyone recommend a simple GPS app for an android device that gives basic information for nautical use?

I'm not interested in having positions logged on electronic charts or Google maps, just the following basic information displayed in an accessible format:

- Lat and Long
- SOG (in knots)
- COG
- Log/distance travelled in nautical miles

It would also be useful to be able to enter waypoints and for it to display course to steer.

I'm basically looking for something a bit like the old style Garmin etrex, but instead of having a bulky separate device an app that incorporates it into a mobile or tablet device.

Thanks everyone for the useful suggestions.

I liked the simple look of Sail Droid, but it doesn't have a distance travelled log.

Boatie actually has some nice features with the tidal atlas and forecast updates, but I can't see if it records distance travelled for a particular passage. Can anyone who has the app confirm if it does before I download it?

Looks more into weather and tides than 'simple' nav. Which is good if that is what your after.

PS GPS Essentials looks to be aimed more at flying than sailing.
SeaWi Marine looks to be more of a chart plotter.

One of the handiest features of GPS essentials is when running it and opening the camera through it!!!!

No need for taking notes if taking loads of piccirs! It shows exactly where you were when you took the piccy.
By flagging the map and direction the camera pointing!

bit of fred drift

does seawi wifi work in the unregistered version, as having real problem getting seawi it to work as a repeater screen with opencpn

A couple that I have used are;

GPS Essentials https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mictale.gpsessentials# and manual etc at http://www.gpsessentials.com/

GPS Test (basic but does lat/long,heading, SOG) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mictale.gpsessentials and useful info at http://gpstestapp.blogspot.co.uk/

It is worth reading the manual for GPS Essentials as it has quite a lot of functionality, some of which is not too intuitive.

Second gps essentials- I have it on my samsung galaxy.

If you want really simple I have a home-grown solution. Runs on my Android phone and has a really clear display of position, speed and course. No log currently though. I really wrote it for my own education and to provide an alternative GPS source for my laptop - the program also connects via bluetooth serial service if you want to use it in this way.
Here's a screen shot:

You're welcome to a copy if it's any use to you.
