From a forumite called Peter Duck.

I thought I knew most things about paint, and yet I read this tip last night in the classic section, its about how to avoid skin forming on expensive paints, the answer is to just turn the paint upside down and then the skin forms on the bottom of the tin.

I maybe over reacting but I think this is pure genius, or maybe I should just get out more.

Re: Even better painting tip.

Extra special painting tip - if you're turning the paint pot upside down, make sure the lid is well hammered on .....

/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gifI notice they didn’t get any paint on their helter skelter, not soft those two! Looks like good time all round.

Re: Even better painting tip.

That tip is as old as paint itself. However, if you forget to turn it upside down and get a 'skin', filter it into another tin through your best friend's tights/panty-hose.

Its easier to simply pour a small amount of white spirit over the surface of the paint before replacing the lid. If you dont shake the tin it will remain skin-free. (oil-based paints that is!)

Tie some string across the paint pot, use this not the side of the tin to 'wipe' your brush after dipping, saves drips down side of paint pot easier to get lid on and off. I think I should also get out more !

Tip 1. For cleaning brushes centrifugally - buy a paintbrush spinner. It also leaves them almost dry.

Tip 2. When using it, spin it in a bucket or a cardboard box or it will spray everywhere!
