I hate yahoo with a passion, I got a flickr account just so i could post some pics here, but I really resent having to log into them, and I don't find flickr itself particularly user friendly.

Any recommendations for simple sites to use instead? I am processing the rest of beth frans cruise just now, finally! and will stick some images up from the last two stages as and when I get them done.

Like many others, I have been using Photobucket for some time. It can be a nuisance with adverts because I am too mean to pay $0.99 to uograde, and at the moment it doesn't want to know me and refuses to accept my password, even when newly changed.

My preference is for Photobucket. It has many features but for basic hosting and posting pics on forums, emails websites etc it is quite straight forward once you get to know it.

Pictures can be made private if required ( most of mine are arranged in private albums) but still allow forum use etc. They can also be passworded to allow selected people to view them. I have a couple of password protected albums.

Tinypic is very simple to use but AFAIK photos cannot be made private

Loaded with Tinypic .. a friend's garden

Photobucket allways worked well for me but lately logs me out all the time then doesn't recognise my password and generally drives me up the wall.

Doesnt Dropbox require a client churning away in the background, chewing CPU and bandwidth? By require I mean promote the use of so most will fall for it.

Any service (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive) that offers automatic synchronisation to the cloud will need some background client. But you should be able to turn it off.

Yes .... I usually load the Dropbox exe when I want to upload a batch of new photos so it works in the background. Once the photos are uploaded Dropbox can be closed and everything can be managed through the browser. I sometimes load or delete single photos through the browser interface but, of course, the website and my local store then get out of sync.

I regularly use Flicker and find it very easy. I can upload images from my phone, tablet or computer with no log on (pre set obviously and linked accounts). Once uploaded to Flicker I just click on the image, click on the icon for the links, copy the BB code, paste and delete out the image's Flicker address parts that are not required. It is 100% add free, privacy levels set by me, easy peasy.

A few folks have mentioned that they can't stand Yahoo and find Flicker difficult but that's not my experience.

Not too much data, about 350/00KB upload over an hour, less download. Might start to stack up on a small data allowance mobile setup but for most of us insignificant. Looking at commandline "top" on a low power linux machine it takes up next to no resources.

Image took seconds to create - snip tool (or shutter on linux) , copy the snip, open imgur.com web page, control v to paste the copy the link. Load it in here. Photobucket always seemed so long winded to do anything.

I've been using Dropbox for photos on here for a couple of years and I've never heard of public folders never mind ever actually used them .... so it presumably won't affect posting photos on YBW using a shared link.
If you joined after, I think, 2014 you wouldn't have had them. Dropbox cited 'abuse' when they started withdrawing them. I wouldn't be surprised if shared links become pro-users only or only shareable with Dropbox members.

Until then - yes, it's simple and free. Much easier than photobucket.

I have the Photobucket App on my iPad. It's free there are no adverts and works well.
