We are going to be sailing in the Adriatic for May, June and July

I thought it would be useful to have a local SIM card. What is the recommendation for Italy and for Croatia?

Thanks

Definitely VIPNet for Croatia. The USB modem (Vodafone) is cheap and comes with some data. You can then opt for a cheap pre-paid offer or a 24 hour / unlimited GB deal for a £1 every 24 hours. If you have a crew who do a lot of web surfing or listening to BBC radio all day, then the 24 hour deal is perfect!

A VIP Net shop in most large Croatian towns.

If you have a 3 deal, I think you can use it in any country where 3 operate, (apart from Sweden someone wrote a day or soago?).

Check this - I may be out of date on it.

In 2007 I had a WIND SIM and a TIM SIM. Both very good PAYG data deals. Things will have changed, but I think both still exist and are probably competitive.
I have two separate TIM SIM cards, one for each phone and 3G adaptor, the former simple pre-paid, the latter with a monthly €24 top-up for unlimited access (Internet Senza Limiti), time and data, which is convenient because I pay for one month when I arrive in Italy and only renew for the months while there and when I get back after cruising. I have been told in this forum I'm doing it all wrong, that a mobile phone used as a modem is best, but it suits me especially as they can be loaded in the marina.

I have tried Vodafone, Wind and TIM and have found not all signals in my area (Friuli-Venezia-Guilia) are equal. The big test comes during certain times of the day with throughput varying greatly as load increases. I have had times with Vodafone where I could not even log in due to overload.
