Hi

Have been offered a very good deal on a new(ish) ex demo Silverton SB38. Has anybody got any expereince of them? It has the twin Volvo D6 370HP engines (which are the smallest in the spec range), so not sure regarding power (i.e. would you think it was underpowered)?

Please - any advice (good or bad) would be greatly appreciated. Have downloaded the MBM test report, but nothing can beat an actual owners experience!!

Many thanks in advance

Regards
C38

Slow response! While you wait, also try some of the USA sites -

BoaterEd.com
BoatUS.com
GoBoating.com
TheHullTruth.com

they are not good boats
I would compare them to a similar level to a Sealine or Beneteau
may be better to these in electrical systems and hull strength, and gets less points for some fit and finish details

you might find some of the US forums overly critizing because of Silvertom trying to compete in the battle wagon sportfish market, where there it does fall short

Pretty familiar with them in the US. Very popular due to price and interior space. Cabin goes full width which gives great space, but means access to foredeck is from the flybridge. Probably no lower helm which limits UK use. Main issue I would watch for is residual value. Not huge issue if you buy it right and plan to keep for longer term, but if you think you will trade in the near future, it will take longer to shift it. I think 370"s will be fine as it is not a heavy boat. Warranty is another consideration. Good luck.

I was going through the process of purchasing a Silverton SB 38 late last year. I went out on the boat for a sea trial, it handled surprisingly well for what seems a very large volume boat. The boat looked top heavy but I think this is due to the canopies enclosing the flybridge. The accommodation and the flybridge is outstanding for a boat of this size. I use to own a Broom and in all fairness the Silverton seems to be just as well constructed but with what seems to be some very clever practical designs. Having the family on board was one of my concerns at sea, and yet the boat felt very safe. Unfortunatelly due to the current economic climate my business has been suffering and I was unable to go through with the purchase. I would certainly recommend the boat to anybody and when business improves it will be the first boat on my list to revisit.
