Silva Type 70 UNB hand held compass become very dark.

Cause?

It came with the boat 19 years ago, may even be same age as boat so 30 years. Not done too badly.

Mine has done the same, any clues on how to open it up would be appreciated.

I think it will be fix with new, if we keep the boat. In our case it seems to have been over the last couple of weeks when we have been using/leaving it in the cockpit. It is not something we use on Windermere.

Yes mine went dark when I left it in the cockpit for a week or so.
