Silva Sea data

I have just acquired a Silva Star Sea Data with log. I have found that this unit will take data from a depth transducer to give depth. As the Star range is now discontinued, does anyone know where I might get the transducer.

Also I seem to get conflicting information on the applicability of suitable transducers.

Did the original depth transducer for the Star range attached directly to the back of the instrument without an amplifier or was an amplifier required?

It appears the depth transducer for the Nexus range (TH43) is suitable but requires an amplifier to work. Is this correct?

Thanks

I have a Silva Seadata and they do use the Nexus Transducer I believe.An amplifier is needed.You can get the Star Transducer from jgtech.com for £89. Peter. ps I also bought the in hull mounting kit from Seamark Nunn to save drilling a hole.

I have the Manuals but they are very short on information. An example from the manual for the Star Sea Data Manual;

"As an option a depth transducer can be connected, giving you depth, shallow and deep alarm. "

No information as to the model of the transducer and nothing about an amplifier.

Part number would be a big help.

Look again...

If you look again at the link I gave, you'll see that in the list of "Star" manuals, there's an item called "Depth Transducer 43TH". Look at this, and you'll see it says that the transducer is supplied with an amplifier.

Re: Look again...

Thanks for that.

But the link for the "Depth Transducer 43TH" is a link to using a Nexus transducer with the Star instrument.

In the manual I have for the instrument it states:

"The two transducers are connected to the back of the instrument. They are easy to install due to
the colour coded 4-pole jack plugs."

There is no listing or mention anywhere in the manual for the Star Sea Data about connecting an amplifier.

What I am trying to establish is;

1. Did the original Silva Star range (before the Nexus range was released) have an amplifier for the transducer?

2. What were the part numbers for the original Silva Star transducer and the amplifier (if supplied)?

3. Is the amplifier only required when connecting a Nexus TH43 transducer to the Star range?

Thanks

Re: Look again...

I have the sea data (very good budget system) - and yes there is an amplifier between the transducer and the instrument. The cable between amp and transducer should not be cut as this is a specific length for the system to work.

When you installed the system, did you have this diagram supplied with the manual for the installation of the depth transducer?

Yes!
I also installed mine as an in-hull system, with fresh water diluted with anti-freeze. My previous one had used mineral oil which is better, but is a pain when it spills or leaks due to the mess. I used a tube of plastic padding epoxy to secure the tube to the hull. No leaks, but it did slide slightly before setting so it is misaligned by about 5 degrees.
