Just bought a boat that comes with the Silva S15 DSC radio. Seems like a nice piece of kit and the previous owner had never linked up the navtex. I have installed it and it is working fine to the radio.

Now the problem, the previous owner lost the PC software disc, does anyone know where i could get a copy of this software to load onto my laptop?

Thanks
Phil

I got a Silva S15 as well, but there was never any software for it! what do you need the software for?
The Navtex is not worth coupling up anyway, its just too small a screen, if you have a navtex just use that! It will not receive navtex in its own right it has to be a slave to a navtex unit.
The GPS works ok though, but again it is a slave to a GPS unit. I link mine to my GPS which is below and my Silva is on the flybridge, so I have a read out on the radio.

I have linked the radio to a navtex ariel and it is working OK, however the manual says it is supplied with software to put the navtex readings onto a PC instead of the small radio screen?

Hi,

The software supplied is a simple terminal emulator designed for Windows 3.1. Windows 95 onwards comes with Hyperterminal, find it under programs/accesories/communications so you should not need it.
I am sorry to say I own a S15, Silva sourced these from Hong Kong and had a lot of quality problems, they build them here now, same applies to the S10.

The software came with the optional Navtex antenna. You don't need it if you connect this unit to the S15 radio only. As a another forum member said it is a very simple terminal progam. Silva UK should be able to e-mail you a copy if needed.

PS - in spite of all the bad press this radio had in its first year, mine is fine...very happy with it for what I want.

Ditto the others, I use my S15 Navtex from the set screen. The menus and scrolling the messages is a bit tedious, but I got a great deal that means I have a GPS repeater, Navtex and DSC VHF all for 229 quid!
I had some connectivity issues with my JRC Radar/Chartplotter GPS input, but that was solved with a free powered NMEA cable upgrade from Silva. Why didnt they include it in the box?

Their call centre is in Jock speak, but nonetheless pleasant and helpful for all that.
