I've seen a post recently about the type of navtex aeriel required by the Silva S15 (now Nexus NX2500). Over the weekend I asked how much the required aerial costs in my local Force 4 and was informed that it is no longer available as the NX2500 isnt being made anymore. Is this true? If so does anyone know where I can track down an aerial or if another (the NASA one for example) is suitable.

TIA

Cant tell if you the set is being made anymore, but can confirm only the proprietory antenna will work.

Having said that, you are not missing much - I found it very user-unfriendly and bought a decent Navtex pretty quick.

You might benefit by putting an ad on the Wanted section - somebody else might be looking to sell one.

The current importers are Navimo UK Ltd - 0879 751 4666

No connection, recently replaced an old S15 for a 2500 as for me (obviously a lone voice) the S15 did a good job.

With only a small space for equipment in my boat it was a good thing to have one bit of kit doing more than one job.

I asked : the NASA Navtex aerial wont do, as it only conveys the signal to the unit, where it is decoded.
The Silva S15 signal is received and decoded in the aerial unit, and then sent as data to the radio.

The S15 Navtex reception is good, but the readout and menus are tortuous, and it will only store 64 messages and then stops, whereas the NASA unit replaces older messages with newer ones continually.

Just about to ditch an S15 as the radio bit is U/S, but the navtex works fine. Will find out tomorrow what the alternatives are, but I suspect I won't be needing the ariel. PM me and will let you know

I was walking out of Swanick Marina this afternoon and one of the guys was walking out of the Aladdins Cave warehouse with one - so call them
