This one is very nice if you are in the market Fast Lady

Close up it looks spectacular, although I wouldn't claim to be an expert - you'd have to talk to Ben for that.

Is that Moonfleet? She has been on the market for a long time, nice boat at one time, was looking a bit sad when I last saw her. Funnily enough Moonfleet was one of the catalysts for me buying mine.

Most of the 28's have got a story to tell, some more so than others, it would need a very careful eye to look over a prospective purchase, there can be some real horrors and there can be some pleasant surprises.

Sub 10k is shabby wreck, scruffy under powered going concern is about 15k, nice boats start at about mid twenties. Pristine with bigger/newer motors is about £35k tops.

Whilst a few boats have had big money spent on them I'm not aware that a 28 has ever sold for more than low thirties.

The 28's suffer from a cycle of falling into disrepair and needing a rebuild on a about a 15 year period that the more expensive H31 and Swordsman do not seen to suffer.

Beyond 210 hp and about 35 knots the power/top speed curve gets very steep with the deep V hull and it becomes one of the diminishing returns situations.

I could go on...

Thats been for sale for ages and it may be a brilliant restoration job but it's stupid money. IMHO, it's a fine example of somebody getting carried away with a restoration project and then wondering how he's going to get his money back

Hi ben,
When it becomes a passion?
The money value goes out of the window.

IE: my mate has an E type,

It is a top class rebuild.
It looks the dogs D*******ies

But they were not that good when they were new.

However it remains an icon.

Surely the Huntsman is just such an icon.
When they were new, they were great.

kind regards.
Les.

Lets be fair, the E Type was a pile of poop.

Unreliable, rusting, never did the claimed performance, and inside was a sweatshop, and with the heavy Moss gearbox to add insult to injury.

The Huntsman is possibly in the same league, but who cares?

They both melt hearts! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I've rebuilt my Huntsman and I'm half way through an E type, I can tell you they were both cheap junk and the Jag is a lot more work than the boat!

Neither costs more than their value to rebuild....if you do all the work yourself and dont count its value in man hours. In both cases its paying labour that leads to boats like Fast Lady and Fairey Fast (both very lovely) and the ads you see for e types with £60k restoration bills (and some...)

Hmmm jury's out on the looks I have to say

then theres the stigma of having a boat called a fairy

and dont you have to go outside to cross from saloon to bed at night?
