I have a Sonic drive on my Prout catamaran. I have had to remove the skeg to replace the oil seals and bearings. In doing this some of the coating/paint has come off the aluminium leg and skeg to reveal some corrosion.

Obviously I will remove as much as is possible of the loose paint and corrosion and recoat/repaint the exposed areas. The problem is what product should I use to recoat/repaint the skeg and leg ?

never found a complete solution on my Prout, but the best results came from stripping all off / priming/ 2 pack epoxy undercoat / 2 pack poly top coat. usually did the prop as well and typically it would last 2 to 3 years.

Was once advised to try cellulose, but never did.

Done forget to take the transom plate off and do that too. Gives you chance to clean the bushes / fit grease nipples if they dont have them already, and to ensure that the leg doesnt stiffen up / seize. The muppet who had my boat before me tackled that issue by having a longer tipstaff made rather than maintaining the boat!
