To keep it longer after its been opened someone told me to put in the freezer, did this about 6mths ago and used it this week and apart from nozzle rest was OK
Yep, after trials with several other methods that's definitely the way to go for me. Doesn't seem to matter whether it's Sikaflex or basic silicon mastic. Has saved me a hell of a lot of money in the last few years. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Nothing more annoying than finding a solid half tube of Sikaflex and the swindlers are closed...... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Works for me too. One chap said it was the dearth of oxygen that did the trick not the low temperature. I don't know if thats true but it is effective.
At the temperature in freezer the actual concentration of water vapour in the air is very low. I'll look it up if you really want it quantified.
Not only that but all chemical reactions are temperature dependent. You should have remembered that from your junior science lessons. So even if there was water vapour present silicone sealants will set much more slowly in the freezer than at ambient temperatues.
Well I suppose you are right as it has just occured to me that it is the exact thing we do with 2 pot paint when we mix too much.
We put the excess in the fridge, /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
I think I read somewhere that specialised shot blasters take the temp. of the air down to freezing level to reduce water content.when shotblasting steel.
