Has anyone any experience of using silicon as a final coat over polished hard racing antifoul? I have no idea whether there would be a benefit but I thought I would ask because it sounds like a good idea to me

Just seal off and disable the antifouling - why bother to put in on in the first place.

Why couldn't silicon be a better option?
I am sure it's not as simple as this because it might literaly wash off. The big racers Nicorette etc use this grease stuff over the antifoul which has a low surface tension and spreads itself thinly over a large surface but it costs a bomb and it only lasts a short while.

Why not try and see

Do half your boat with conventional antifouling and the other half with silicon, at the beginning of the season.

The stuff the racers use is teflon, you can buy that in spray form and it does work, not only for bottoms but for things like spinnaker chutesb and mast slides.

Silicon is a hard brittle non metallic element. Used in micro electronics but no good as a coating, a sealant, a lubricant, a hydraulic fluid or for breast enhancement.

Vic - I know. If my memory serves me rightly, it's a semi-metal.
