Hmm, dredges memory...

C35;GGC

C35 is HMS Belfast
3flag hoist ?

Not international code cos the "defining" pennant AP is missing, and the middle G should be First Substitute/

I dunno.

Please repair on board for high tea ?
Don't look now, you are being followed ?
Look what GC1 just bought ?

Jings ! I missed that completely :o. Sorry, Chief Yeoman, ouch !

No idea for the 4 hoist.... Gissa clue.

I agree with the Belfast hoist as I held a Bridge Wireless Office pass to operate the transmitters on board.

I also did the 'Bunting Tossers' course for my AFO and QR ticket which allowed me to cox MFV's in Pompey harbour!

That was when TS Foudroyant was moored at Bucklers Hard. ;)

"G", "G", "C", "N" looks to me like a four flag hoist signifying a British Ship?

Further edit, "GGCN" is HMS BELFAST four letter group:

is it a DNA sequence ?

Mystified totally, but prepared to be embarrassed another simple clue.

EDIT. Making her number . But why as well as C35 ? Because she is no longer in commission ?

"GGCN" is the Imternational Call Sign of the ship. Traditionally, British ships all had a four letter call sign beginning witha "G".

"C35" is the pennant number. If tyou travel up pompey harbour you will see all the ships alongside with big black numbers on the side i.e. "F239" and D78" etc. "C35" is (I think) Belfasts pennant number (i.e. the one that would be painted on the side).

Happy sailing

Belfast it is!

Interesting stuff, thanks for all your contributions.
I didn't want to admit it in advance, but I was also wondering... :o
Unfortunately, I noticed the flags only while leaving the ship, otherwise I would have asked the RN guys (who were welcoming the guests onboard) to enlighten me.
VERY interesting tour btw, highly recommended.
