Seems to me a lot of boat for the money, although 15/1600 quid to fill her up, berthing costs for a 46' 6" boat, detoits, a bit thirsty perhaps, listed at
£53,358. could it be bought for sub 50?

what do you, the learned members think?

I remember looking at them on Launch at Earls Court in about 1989. My friends Dad instead bought a Thomahawk 37. Always loved them especially if you have older children as the layout gives privacy. I saw one last year which had a redesigned main cabin with square lounge seats and a pull down pullman berth. Worked really well and gives you more options. Great solid boat, if well looked after...nightmare if not!

You want me to bite on the engines ??? if anyone buys it and want to dispose of them, I'll be a happy taker ..... DD V6 92's @ 550 hp.. would fit nice and snuggly down in our boat ....... full rebuild to factory spec.... in my garage for about £2 K per lump in parts :D

Not at all Alf, I love the sound of blood and thunder of the American iron.

The Camargue 46 is one of Sunseeker's best sea boats by all accounts. I nearly bought one myself a few years ago. The layout is great with that aft cabin; why don't they make them like that anymore? She looks to be in fair condition and the hours are relatively low. Getting on for classic boat status IMHO. Possible bargain for the right buyer

MMM Like you I have mused about the Carmargue 46 a few times and I was sent details of one in SOF where owner was in a financial fug wanted rid of the boat, was real tempting. However I could never come to terms with minimalist style of fit out, or as much as I like them, DD fuel consumption or weight. A vessel of this size dragging around two and a half tonnes of engines for just 1,100 Hp. Anyway getting far too old now to start playing repowers however straightforward a Carmarge would be.

On the subject of Bedford TM's, yep 6V71's and they were a poor choice, all noise and not much go, slow to get away but went well provided that you chased the rev counter and knew how to use the Spicer box. However British hauliers could never live with the fuel consumption.

TM 4400 was a hit with the Italians at 44 tonnes however this was a different beast with DD 8V92, real fire breather.

When Bedford was closed down by GM and taken over by David Brown (Multidrive) they had a heap of prototypes lying around. One prototype was a sleeper cab TM 4400 which had two power packs, an 8V92 and a Cummins 855 Small Cam 370. I purchased the immaculate unregistered TM for £500 including VAT and both power packs, as I needed something cheap to tow my restoration project around. Nuts I know but where can you buy such a capable tug for £500!

'Q' plated up, taxed PLG, with a shock protected tow jaw it had no problems with a Fairey Huntress 3 1/2 tonnes all up with trailer, in fact a rocket ship and only ever needed 4 of the 14 gears in the Fuller box. As truck pre-dated speed limiters I could blow the doors off caravanners going up the M4 Swindon bank and terrify them when the Jake Brake cut in on the way down! I always have a bit of a snigger when subject of 'most suitable towing vehicle' comes up.

Also crazy but it was having the TM made me seriously consider purchasing the Carmargue, bringing it home myself and keeping costs down by using it a trailer boat and bringing it back to local farmyard over winter. What changed....Lack of use caused tyres to perish, they were still the original 1980 ones, as well as a wee incident at Phillips yard at Noss. Sold the truck for export to West Indies and the 8V92, still on the original pallet ended up on a drilling rig. Downsized to a DAF 45 as a tow truck for the Huntress.......... Dreams of Carmargue now over.

One for Ben, did you know that there is a Fairey Swordsman out there with a pair of 6V53's?
